PENGUINS COLONY MAGDALENA AND MARTA ISLANDS
(04 Hours)

This wild area was founded in 1966 as a National Park and in 1982 was classified again as a Natural Monument.

The purpose of this natural reserve is to protect the birds of the place (Penguins, Cormorants and Seagulls), being one of the largest penguins' colony in the southern part of Chile. It has been calculated a population of 50.000 Magellan penguins' couples, which constitutes over the 90 per cent of the birds' biomass.

The Isla Magdalena is located in the Strait of Magellan, 35 kilometers away from Punta Arenas. To get there, we will sail through the Strait of Magellan during 2½ hours, following the route of Sir Francis Drake, Pedro Sarmiento de Gamboa, Hernando de Magallanes and Charles Darwin. Once there, we will disembark to observe the thousands penguins' nests.
