CITY TOUR IN PUNTA ARENAS
(03 Hours)

Two paradises for marine life… More than 120,000 Magellan penguins, cormorants, Antarctic sea gulls and many other species are the possibilities that offer Magdalena and Marta islands, which constitute the natural monument “The Penguins”.

In only 3,15 hours (round trip) of amusing navigation on big and safe boats, Zodiac kind, with among 19 and 33 passengers capacity, tourists may sail from Cabo Negro, 25 kilometers north of Punta Arenas. Swiftly plying the Strait of Magellan waters and then navigate near Isabel island to arrive to Marta island, where we’ll disembark (if weather conditions allow it) to visit this virgin colony of seals and cormorants. After 30 minutes we keep on travelling to Magdalena Island, to disembark and visit the greatest penguin colony of the Southern Hemisphere. On the island it’s possible to visit “The lighthouse” where there is on display an environmental interpretation center with the History of the Strait and the island’s fauna.

For obvious reasons, along the tour it’s strictly forbidden to smoke and tipping. “Everything you take… goes out”.

FUERTE BULNES (FORT BULNES)
(3 HOURS AND A HALF)

The Fuerte Bulnes (Fort Bulnes), the first Chilean settlement in the southern of Chile, is located 58 kilometers to the south of Punta Arenas, driving by the coastal road.

Some of the constructions that can be seen in this rebuilt fort are the church, the jail, the priest room, water well, a construction to keep the gun powder, the post office and stables that belonged to the first Chilean garrison in 1843.

On the way you will observe a varied flora and fauna, and birds like the carancho, a kind of small eaglet or bird of prey, the red-breasted singing bird and the thrush that inhabits in most of the Chilean territory.

The flora has a variety of species: the lenga (Nothofagus pumilio), the ñirre (Nothofagus antarctica), the coigüe (Nothofagus betuloide), the romerillo, the wild daisy, the ciruelillo (Embothrium caccineum), the chilco, the canelo (Drimys winteri), the willows, pines and cypresses.

On the way back and close to Fuerte Bulnes, there will be a visit to the ruins of the Ciudad del Rey Felipe II de España (the City of the King Felipe II from Spain), founded by Sarmiento de Gamboa in 1584, where 300 people died because of famine and cold. Nowadays it is known as the Puerto de Hambre (Port Famine). Back to the city.

PENGUINS COLONY AT THE SENO OTWAY
(04 Hours)

Every year, between March and October, the Magellan penguins come together to nest and raise their babies in the Seno Otway (The Otway Inlet), located to the northwest of the Brunswick peninsula, 65 kilometers to the north of Punta Arenas. There are some designed paths to walk at the area. After about 2 kilometers, you will reach the natural, outdoor museum and appreciate the lifestyle of these helpless birds in their natural environment.

On the way you will also observe groups of bandurrias (a kind of wild geese), avestruces (A kind of ostrich) and wild geese.

PENGUINS COLONY MAGDALENA AND MARTA ISLANDS
(04 Hours)

This wild area was founded in 1966 as a National Park and in 1982 was classified again as a Natural Monument.

The purpose of this natural reserve is to protect the birds of the place (Penguins, Cormorants and Seagulls), being one of the largest penguins' colony in the southern part of Chile. It has been calculated a population of 50.000 Magellan penguins' couples, which constitutes over the 90 per cent of the birds' biomass.

The Isla Magdalena is located in the Strait of Magellan, 35 kilometers away from Punta Arenas. To get there, we will sail through the Strait of Magellan during 2½ hours, following the route of Sir Francis Drake, Pedro Sarmiento de Gamboa, Hernando de Magallanes and Charles Darwin. Once there, we will disembark to observe the thousands penguins' nests.

PALI AIKE NATIONAL PARK

200 kilometers northeast of the city of Punta Arenas is Pali Aike National Park. The place is distinguished by its natural and scenic values, formed by a volcanic country of summits and solid lava. The anthropological value of this park is the discovered cultural remains of the native people (Aonikenk or Tehuelches). The remains are 12,000 years old.

The Laguna Ana is the only place that protects and feed the varied fauna, including resident and migratory birds. The lagoon has a surface of about 108 hectares and its main feature is the salinity of the water.

Among the tourist attractions of Pali Aike is the cave “The Devil’s Dump”, Laguna Ana and the stone corral. Besides, our visit includes:

- Estancia San Gregorio: Located 118 Km. from Punta Arenas. This is the first estancia founded in Patagonia in 1870. It was the beginning of the cattle empire of Braun Menendez family. Among its main attractive is the steamboat Amadeo.

- Villa O'Higgins: Located 159 km. from Punta Arenas, O’Higgins village was an estancia of the “Sociedad Ganadera de Tierra del Fuego” (Tierra del Fuego cattle company), that became, with the agrarian reform, Bernardo O’Higgins cooperative. Today is San Gregorio county’s capital.

PORVENIR BY THE DAY
(Departures except on Mondays)

Departure from hotel to the ferry harbour. Sailing across the Magellan Strait for about two hrs and a half. (the sailing departures and arrives, could change).

Arrive to Chilota Bay on Tierra del Fuego Island, where we will start the visit to the town of Porvenir, capital of Tierra del Fuego Province. Officially founded on June 20th of 1894, actually has a population of 5140 inhabitants. Most of them, relatives of Chilotes, Croatians and British.

Our circuit give as the chance to start with a lunch in a folkloric Hosteria, having a delicious and typical dish from the area. After we will continue to the highlands of Cordon Baquedano, where the charming of this range plus the panoramic view.

We will finish our excursion with a city tour that will show as the highlights of the town such as; Fernando Cordero Rusque Museum, the Main Square, church, lookout hill and Santa Maria Lagoon .

FITZ ROY FARM

95 km northwest of Punta Arenas in the shores of Riesco island after one hour driving we cross on a ferry in just 5 minutes, where we will appreciate the end of the Andes Range on the main Land, the fiords and the Skyring and Otway Sound.

Once in the island there are just 7 km to reach the Farm offering us a great mix of yellows and greens of the wild and native forest on the Magellan Steppe, a true gift of the nature.

On this excursion you could participate of: Horse ridings, sheep shaving shows, feel like a pioneer in the old chariots and enjoy the dogs working as the most smarts.

We will also enjoy of a typical lunch of "Asado al Palo" made of the most delicious Lamp on the fire, for many hours, experience that for sure, it will be your only one. Apart of it they will offer you a salad bar, steam potatoes, a wonderful dessert bar, and open Bar. Just after this, drive back to Punta Arenas.

RIO DE LOS CIERVOS FARM

Just 5 km south of Punta Arenas, Estancia Rio de Los Ciervos it’s a wonderful spot to understand the history of pioneers in this southern latitudes, a great main house and several services buildings, historical shown, will make of this a time difficult to forget.
Once in the House we could enjoy of a tasty Lamp BBQ or smelly Smoke Salmon with a good cocktail and great Wines.

Recall with the pioneer history at Rio de los Ciervos Farm.

Day 01: reception at the airport or bus station and transfer to Rio de los Ciervos farm, the ideal place to recall the Patagonic history. Appetizer and accommodation.
